How to save Photoshop Settings and move them to another computer (on Windows 2000 and XP)

Problem: You've got a new computer, and you would like to transfer all your Photoshop actions over from the old one. How? Read on...

Photoshop 7 stores the settings under:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\7.0\Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings
(where %username% is the name you use to log in, possibly Administrator)
Other versions will be similar (substitute 6.0 or 8.0 for 7.0).

The Application Data folder is hidden by default. To show it, double click "My Computer" then choose Tools, Folder Options from the drop down menu. Click on the View tab. There are two settings related to viewing files: the radio button for "Show Hidden Files and Folders" and the check box for "Hide protected operating system files". You will need to Set the "Show Hidden Files and Folders" to on. It should not be necessary to unhide the protected operating system files.

To move your settings, on the new computer, close Photoshop, rename the "Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings" folder to something like "Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings - old" then copy the "Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Settings" folder from the old computer into the 7.0 folder. Launch Photoshop. All your old setting should be transfered!
